Legal Aid of Arkansas is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization that provides free legal services to low-income individuals residing in the state of Arkansas in civil (non-criminal) cases. Our mission is to improve the lives of low-income Arkansans by championing equal access to justice for all regardless of economic or social circumstances. Due to limited resources, Legal Aid of Arkansas workgroups must sometimes make hard decisions about which cases to accept. Legal Aid workgroups have created a set of guidelines call Case Acceptance Priorities to help decide which cases to accept based on the organization's priorities.

Legal Aid of Arkansas  has established a maximum income level for different family sizes. The maximum income level is 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. These numbers are the maximum levels. If certain factors are present, legal aid can waive up to 200% in unusual or meritorious circumstances. Call our helpline to see if you qualify for free legal help. Legal Aid of Arkansas cannot help with criminal problems, including traffic tickets. Fee-generating cases, such personal injury cases are not accepted.  If you are unsure, call anyway.

Mission Statement: The mission of Legal Aid of Arkansas is to champion equal justice for lowÔÇÉincome individuals and communities and to remedy the conditions that burden and marginalize them.

my daughter was pulled over in Marshal Ark. by the State Police for a missing windshield mounted rear view mirror. Ark. law doesn't specify mounting location only that a rear viewing mirror is present. Both of her door mounted rearview mirrors were present and undamaged so she had violated no law. i looked online and discovered several Federal Court of Appeals similar to this that concluded that under some circumstance an officers mistake of facts could warrant a traffic stop but under no circumstance could an officers mistake of law warrant a traffic stop. I know the Constitution protects citizens from unwarranted stops but don't know what to do. I am a 62yo veteran on SS supporting 2 unemployed daughters and myself on very little and would appreciate any help or advice you could offer other than public defender, which refuses to even file a motion to dismiss the case after more than a year. thank you very much.

Important Information

Legal Aid Funding
Legal aid professionals and organizations oftentimes receive government funding for taking on cases with those who cannot afford attorneys. For the most part, funding is limited so legal aid entities can only take on a limited amount of cases. Qualifications are often rigid.
